Advanced Process Diagnostics for Performance Evaluations
This is the first of two workshops that are designed to inform and train advanced operators about the practices and tools available for identification and correction of performance limiting factors in their own water plants. This workshop will be taught at a water treatment plant and is designed around hands-on experiences. Operators will work with colleagues in teams and learn-by-doing the techniques being presented. This workshop reviews methods for identification of potential problems in the water plant and includes five specially designed, hands-on exercises to train operators how to identify these problems.
Workshop 1 includes the following sessions: (Download agenda)
This session teaches operators the essential techniques involved in recognizing performance issues from data trends. Different data gathering techniques and levels of automation will be reviewed. Operators will explore different methods of plotting and analyzing data. Teams will discuss and identify the associated issues within the water plant.
This session reviews methods for determining the ‘weakest link’ in any given water treatment plant in terms of production capacity. The idea is to fully characterize the capabilities of each process and operate accordingly. Operators will conduct hands on evaluations of processes at a full-scale water plant in this session.
This session provides tools for identification of PLF’s. Operators will learn techniques to continually optimize their process. Operators will evaluate a process from the full-scale water plant and identify PLF’s.
This session emphasizes pulling everything together from the prior sessions and being able to tell a story from the different pieces. Operators will learn techniques to properly prioritize water plant issues and to communicate these issues both to management and to subordinates. Operators (in teams) will present their findings to the class.
